Mental Health and Caffeine

MENTAL HEALTH AND CAFFEINE….

Posted on September 23, 2018 by christinesfrequency

Is caffeine a positive mental health habit?  Growing up, I always thought drinking coffee was not a good habit to develop. I assumed I should simply be responsible to set a morning alarm and splash water on my face to be ready for the day. Coffee was not necessary in order to “wake up”.

Of course, coffee isn’t necessary, but there are some benefits for coffee drinkers when it comes to mental health. Research shows that drinking coffee can potentially reduce the risk of depression. Studies also have shown that the caffeine in coffee can increase cognitive function as well as mood.

Although these benefits may seem very appealing, keep in mind that too much of anything is not good. Balance is critical.  Consuming gallons of coffee every day will not bring you positive effects. I, personally, have not experienced any effect after drinking coffee.

I cannot promise coffee will bring great results and solutions to your life, but I can say that caffeine can work in mysterious ways.  Trying out a balanced amount of coffee or tea every day may be beneficial.

Before making any decisions like these, I always consult with my psychiatrist just to be absolutely sure that everything is safe and healthy for my own body. No one is exactly the same, so my experience and opinions may be completely different from yours. Always be careful to monitor any mood or bodily changes.
